I am a Candidate – to Stop the Rot.
Michael Byrne – Resident of East Liverpool for 49 years…
I am no political careerist, more a catalyst. I am 75 years of age living in Sydney’s southwest around Liverpool. I have broad experience in local civic engagement and community development – leadership or founder role in;
Note: My leadership roles were not fought for. They were appointments as a founding figure or offered to serve in.
- East Liverpool Progress Association – member since 1980, as a young 30 year old responding to dodgy dealings by Liverpool Council – LCC..
- I led the 1986/7 Citizen’s campaign for LCC to hold a referendum for the citizens to elect their Mayor directly. 80% YES.
Mark Latham was the first publicly elected Mayor of Liverpool in 1991, with the support of the East Ward Progress Association. - Liverpool City Council’s Economic Development Unit – 1992-94

- Liverpool Boating Association ( now Chipping Norton Lake Sailing Club) – to sail is to fly and we can do it locally
- Garie Surf Life Saving Club – active surf lifesaver at age of 50 (Years 2000 to 2010) and President 2007-2010

- I have been occupationally engaged, largely self employed, in Computing Services since 1968 – Retired since 2015
- Served as President of Technology Advancement Group (TAG) – a national body of IT business systems consultants and implementers.

I acknowledge membership of two political parties in the past -:
In 2011, I joined the Democratic Labour Party with the goal of making it a wider political reality after it had a Victorian Senator elected in 2010-11.
A very bad experience; the antics of ideology / narrow religion driven characters who “had the numbers” after they culled the membership in Victoria.
Note: My Christian faith is inspired by the Scriptures and informed by, and my worship practice is in, the Catholic Church. I participate in the Ministry of the Word ( Mass Readings ) at All Saints Liverpool.
Our purpose and promise and goal? – Joy in Life and Peace at Death.
In 2019, I gave assistance to Mark Latham in his election to the NSW Legislative Council by standing as a Candidate for my local seat of Holsworthy for his One Nation Party. The elevated local East Liverpool vote for Mark saw his running mate attain the last Seat won in the NSW Legislative Council count. I am not a member of any Political Organisation beyond the historical East Ward Progress Association.
I have stood in several other Local / State / Federal Elections as a purposeful stand on matters to provide “purposeful choice”. Fundamental to our western civilisation value system is Freedom and Choice – but who are you free to choose from?

I encourage, and work to generate, Informed Citizens to stand with pen in hand at the polling booth. My observance is that Politics has become just another exercise of consumption. We “consume” the politics that is delivered to us. We act as election consumers. Some will never change brand, others do shop around. Yet, the product has deteriorated.
What is observable is the erosion of the exercise and spirit of public service in the political caste. That has morphed into political careerism –
which puts “Party Power- First”. Self-interest reigns as the key motivator in politics. Whether he/she is a “go-getter” or a dopey Party seat filler.
This social cancer has leaked into the public service – failing, is the spirit of frank and fearless advice – see below.
All this is evidenced in the experience of East Liverpool, and beyond, with the advancement of the Moorebank Intermodal Freight Terminal (MIFT).
I have much to expose on that… its demonstrable failings at massive cost to East Liverpool citizens and their environment and their regional neighbours. It is an economic and financial fraud, with extra Billions of taxpayers Dollars being expended to “Make It Happen” through newly announced roads to be funded to meet the demand of this contrived – from its origins – development. It is a fraud.
How can this be? It started in the early 2000s with a faulty evaluation of Moorebank as an Intermodal site by a wealthy and powerful businessman, Mr. Chris Corrigan, who was aligned with the Liberal Party. Corrigan had been in battles down the line at Ingleburn in the early 2000s with Labor Party activists acting out their hatred of him and seeking Labor hero-ship. It went down hill into perversity with our current Prime Minister (Albanese) as the 2007 Infrastructure Minister setting out to thwart the investment, by duplicating it with a development area 2.5 times the size of Corrigan’s and situated to block Corrigan’s access to the new purpose-built Southern Sydney Freight Line link to Port Botany.
It is assumed that Albanese thought that Corrigan’s evaluation was sound. Overall, it was deeply deficient, but never tested.
Today, March 2026, the Moorebank Intermodal stands operational but far diminished in throughput, and that at great environmental and taxpayer cost. It cannot attain its projected levels of cargo throughput without more destruction of the natural and local residential amenity.
All this because the local Labor were blinded by Labor Heroship seekers to bring down Corrigan in the early 2000s.
And Corrigan came in blind to the reality of his erroneous judgement on the suitability of these Military lands he acquired through his Liberal Party (Howard et al) connections in the early 2000s.
Corrigan would not listen to the Locals….
Qube Holdings recent new potential owners, Macquarie Asset Management, need to wake up to all of this.
And so do we as Electors, as facts unfold.
